The Alliance for Global Health and Science (the Alliance) is a partnership between the University of California, Berkeley and Makerere University.  The Alliance seeks to make a tangible, enduring impact by focusing on locally identified health research needs and strengthening collaborations between faculty at UC Berkeley and Makerere University.

Prof Mfinanga has led high impact multi-centre clinical trials which have been incorporated into national and World Health Organisation in Africa(@WHOAFRO) and World Health Organisation in Tanzania (@WHO_Tanzania) guidelines. The awards have been presented at the 2nd Annual Joint Scientific Conference organised by the National Institute for Medical Research(@NIMRHQS). 

Prof. Pontiano Kaleebu recently received a medal of service on the National Labour day celebrations at Kololo Independece Grounds in Kampala. The celebrations were presided over by the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The event was attended by various government officials where 50 medals were awarded to 50 outstanding persons in the country of whom 13 were female and 37 males. The awardees included; long serving officials, civilians, police, prisons and mebers from UPDF.

On this year’s World Malaria Day, EDCTP joins its partners and stakeholders in harnessing innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives. EDCTP has dedicated over EUR 150 million funding towards achieving the 2030 targets of the WHO global malaria strategy. We remain committed to reducing the burden of malaria among vulnerable populations that are often excluded from clinical studies but that have major unmet medical needs.
