EACCR2 Mid-Term Review Week

EDCTP commissioned an independent evaluation to assess EDCTP Regional Networks’ (NoEs) performance and impact. The EACCR2 is one of the four NoEs, and was evaluated between the 14th and 16th August 2019. The objective of the Mid-term review was to assess the status of the project performance so far, including progress towards agreed deliverables, project management and the likelihood of successful completion.

Prof Hassen Ghannem on behalf of EDCTP came to UVRI, the secretariat of the EACCR2, to conduct the Mid-term evaluation.During the visit, Prof Ghannem met with the EACCR2 Secretariat team and the Node Coordinators who attended via Video Conference. The Overall Project Coordinator Prof Pontiano Kaleebu gave a general progress report and challenges about EACCR2 Network of Excellence followed by presentations from the 5 node coordinators about the different achievements and challenges from the work packages He later visited St Francis Hospital Nsambya sister institution in Kampala and UVRI Clinic facility and were he visited infrastructural upgrades sites which were funded by EACCR2, he commended the good work at these facilities.

These sites were visited in order to assess the investment done by EACCR2 with support from EDCTP in EACCR1 and EACCR2 and the likely impact created by these investments. At Nsambya Hospital for instance the server Room and switch and patch panel in the MRI Unit; computers used for billing and receiving the laboratory results were also visited.

A discussion meeting with a group of fellows, Alumni,PHDs and Post Doc students and students who participated in short term trainings who revealed how the trainings and capacity building activities helped to grow their careers. The evaluation ended on Friday 16th August with all the node coordinators and the secretariat team, in which the identified challenges and way forward were discussed.
