Dr. Patience Kiyuka is a Research Scientist at the Kenya Medical Research Institute. Her research interests include molecular epidemiology and immunology of infectious diseases, drug development, and vaccine discovery. She also has a strong passion for science communication, which led her to win the prestigious inaugural 2022 National Academies Eric Wendy Schmidt Award for excellence in science communications. Additionally, Patience is the recipient of the global 2023/2024 Vertex fellowship and a visiting fellowship award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health in the United States. She earned her PhD in Life Sciences from the Open University in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, funded by the Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAL). Her MSc in Infectious Diseases is from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, supported by the Commonwealth Scholarship, which is now under the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). She holds an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Kenyatta University.
