Call for Applications: EACCR and KEMRI Announce Malaria PhD Studentship in Kilifi

The Eastern Africa Consortium for Clinical Research (EACCR), in partnership with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), has officially opened applications for a fully dedicated Malaria PhD Studentship based in Kilifi, Kenya.

This opportunity aims to support early-career researchers committed to advancing long-term scientific progress in malaria control and elimination across East Africa. The selected candidate will conduct on-site research in Kilifi, utilizing state-of-the-art molecular biology platforms, laboratory facilities, and community field data collection networks.

Applicant Requirements

Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Public Health, or a related field. Key qualifications and skills include:

  • Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques (such as PCR, RT-PCR sequencing, cell culture, microscopy) and field data collection.

  • Analytical & Communication Proficiency: Strong capability in statistical methods and data analysis software, combined with strong writing and communication skills in English.

  • Research Focus: A track record or clear intention of pursuing a long-term career dedicated to malaria research.

  • Registration Status: Proof of current PhD registration within the first year at a recognized local or international university is considered an added advantage.

  1. Motivation Letter (maximum 2 pages) detailing academic background, career objectives, and research interests.

  2. Curriculum Vitae (maximum 3 pages) including past employment and a list of peer-reviewed publications.

  3. Certified Academic Transcripts & Certificates for both BSc and MSc degrees.

  4. Two Professional Reference Letters (one academic and one professional or social reference) with official institutional contact details.
