Genomics Training Hosted at Kenya Medical Research Institute
Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) hosted a two-week training course with the purpose of training participants on long-read sequencing on Nanopore for whole-genome and metagenomics applications. The course consisted of lectures, laboratory experiments, and bioinformatics analysis.
The training program included Whole Genome and Metagenomics Sequencing using Nanopore technology, which specifically emphasized viral isolates, bacterial isolates, and sewage samples. This comprehensive course aimed to equip participants with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills in genomic Nanopore sequencing techniques and analysis.
The training focused on enhancing the participant’s ability to comprehend long-read sequences on Nanopore for diverse applications and to identify disease etiology, such as Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (AST) patterns, and replicate the analysis. The course took place between March 18 and 29, 2024, at the KEMRI KGS Training Centre.
