EAPOC's Impactful Initiative at Reginald Mengi Secondary School

International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a momentous occasion that aimed to bridge the gender gap in the field of science and World AIDS Day, dedicated to raising awareness about HIV, combating the stigma associated with the virus, and remembering those who had lost their lives to AIDS.
In supportive of these events, EAPOC through the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) and other projects made a positive impact on the lives of the community. The team believes in the transformative power of education and sought to extend their support to schools, particularly in Kilimanjaro.
Following that the spotlight fell on Reginald Mengi Secondary School, where as a remarkable event was witnessed. The focus of the event was comprehensive, encompassing a wide array of subjects that aimed to enrich the minds and lives of the students. As the day unfolded, the air was filled with excitement and anticipation.
The sessions began with discussions on science subjects, aimed was to ignite a passion for science among the young minds and break down the barriers that often discouraged them from pursuing careers in STEM.
The speakers delved into essential health issues, with a particular emphasis on HIV-related topics. Students were educated about the importance of understanding and preventing the spread of HIV, as well as dispelling myths and misconceptions surrounding the virus without forgetting point of care.
The program expanded its scope to encompass personal growth, mentorship, and the promotion of overall well-being. The students were encouraged to dream big, set goals, and strive for success in every aspect of their lives. Gender-based issues were addressed, fostering a sense of equality and respect among the students.
Mental health, often overlooked in traditional educational settings, took center stage. The students were provided with tools and resources to navigate the challenges of adolescence and adulthood, promoting a holistic approach to education.
As the day ended, the students left with a newfound enthusiasm for learning, a deeper understanding of critical issues, and a sense of purpose that would guide them towards a brighter future.
